Inks deal with Halos
Garcia signed a one-year, $4.25 million contract with the Angels on Tuesday, Bob Nightengale of USA Today reports.
ANALYSIS
Garcia recorded a 3.73 ERA and 1.30 WHIP over two seasons in San Diego, and he'll now help bolster an Angels bullpen unit that put up a 4.88 ERA last season (fifth worst in MLB). The 36-year-old righty registered one save and six holds during his first stint with the Angels in 2019, though he may be used more often in high-leverage situations next season given the lack of depth in Los Angeles' bullpen.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Headed to San Diego?
Garcia is in "serious talks" with the Padres, Robert Murray of FanSided.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Garcia had a strong season with the Cardinals in 2021, posting a 3.24 ERA with 34 strikeouts as compared to eight walks in 33.1 frames. While he was linked to the Padres on Tuesday, San Diego retained several of its own bullpen arms later that day. As a result, Garcia may have to look for an opportunity with another club, though he is almost certain to land a big-league contract at some point in the offseason.

After playing for four different teams in his previous four seasons, Garcia signed a 2-year deal with San Diego and primarily served in a setup capacity. He was especially valuable in fantasy leagues that count holds, notching 20 (T-6th in the NL) during his age-35 season while also contributing four wins and three saves. The right-hander maintained above-average strikeout and walk rates while inducing plenty of ground balls with his 99 mph sinker. His slider (57% whiff rate) and spitter (40%) were fantastic put-away pitches and he slightly increased his usage of both. Garcia is likely third in San Diego's hierarchy for saves behind Josh Hader and Robert Suarez, but expect plenty of holds again in 2023 with the occasional save chance.
