Mitchell Parker

Mitchell Parker

24-Year-Old PitcherSP
Washington Nationals
2024 Fantasy Outlook
A 24-year-old lefty, Parker has been a notable prospect in a shallow Nationals farm system for a couple years, but poor control and middling stuff limited his realistic upside. Parker primarily operates with a 92-mph four-seamer with solid movement and an 80-mph curveball while also mixing in a mid-80s splitter. He walked between 11.1 and 15.4 percent of batters from 2022 through 2023 while pitching in the mid-to-upper minors, and he doesn't have the pure stuff to have success with that many free passes, but only issued one walk in his first two starts of 2024, with one of those coming against the Dodgers' big-league lineup. Assuming Parker spends a good chunk of 2024 in the big-league rotation, he could be a deep-league streamer in good matchups, but there's not much data to suggest he can maintain the success he's had early in the season. Draws another start
PWashington Nationals
April 17, 2024
Parker is slated to start Sunday's game against the Astros at Nationals Park, Mark Zuckerman of MASNSports.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Parker was able to limit a tough Dodgers lineup to two runs on four hits and no walks over five innings Monday in his big-league debut, so it comes as little surprise that he'll be rewarded for his efforts with another turn through the rotation. If he continues to perform well, Parker will have a path to sticking in the rotation on a long-term basis with Josiah Gray (elbow) facing an uncertain timeline to return from the 15-day injured list.

This section compares his stats with all starting pitcher seasons from the previous three seasons (minimum 120 innings)*. The bar represents the player's percentile rank. For example, if the bar is halfway across, then the player falls into the 50th percentile for that stat and it would be considered average.

* Exit Velocity, Barrels/BBE %, Balls Hit 95+ MPH %, and Spin Rate are benchmarked against 2019 data (min 120 IP). See here for more exit velocity/barrels stats plus an explanation of current limitations with that data set.
