February 12, 2014
Morillo signed a minor league contract with the Orioles on Wednesday, Eduardo A. Encina of the Baltimore Sun reports.
ANALYSIS
Control issues doomed Morillo's tenure in the majors from 2006-2009, and he's spent seasons in Japan and Mexico since. The 30-year-old had a blistering fastball in his day, but the concerns over his control remain and it's hard to imagine he'll get a chance with the big club in 2014, unless the team gets desperate.

Here's a fun tip: if your innings pitched, hits, walks and strikeouts all begin with the same digit, you had a really bad year. That's why you buy the magazine, for stuff like that. Morillo is out of options and keeps the ball in the park, so he might make the roster out of spring training. He has some upside, especially with Casey Weathers out.
Morillo spent 2007 adjusting to pitching in relief. He pitched well at Double-A and progressed to Triple-A before a September callup. He possesses a 100 MPH fastball and will compete for a bullpen role during spring training. Morillo has trouble with his control at times and if he can bring in the reins he looks like a future closer, although the Rockies are deep at that position.
Morillo has worked exclusively as a starter in the minors, racking up impressive strikeout totals along the way courtesy of a fastball that reaches triple digits on the radar gun. It's the high walk totals (5 BB/9) that have the Rockies considering Morillo for a bullpen job this spring a la Joel Zumaya in Detroit. With Morillo's power arsenal, he could quickly find himself working in the late innings should his command show improvement.
Morillo is a young fireballer who can reach triple digits on the radar gun. He played in the 2005 Futures Game and made big strides in his development last season. His control is much improved from a year ago and he is learning to pitch instead of throw. Expect Morillo to continue development in 2006 and make a push for a rotation spot in spring training 2007.
