In his first season at Michigan State, the Lansing, Michigan native helped lead the Spartans to the 2015 NCAA Final Four. As a Michigan State senior, he led the Big Ten in three-point field goals (112) and three-point field-goal percentage (.481) and was second in the conference in three-point attempts (233) in the 2015-16 season. At Cleveland State, he led the Horizon League in three-point field goal percentage (.424) and was second in the conference in both three-point buckets (81) and third in three-point attempts (191) in the 2013-14 season. Forbes went undrafted during the 2016 NBA Draft and eventually signed with the San Antonio Spurs during the summer of 2016.

December 14, 2022
Forbes could be traded by the Timberwolves once the trade window opens, Michael Scotto of USA Today reports.
ANALYSIS
Forbes was traded from the Nuggets to the Spurs last season, and he could be on the move once again during the 2022-23 campaign. He hasn't been a consistent part of the Timberwolves' rotation early in the year and could help the team acquire a bench upgrade.

After winning a championship with the Bucks, Forbes returns to San Antonio. The 28-year-old joins an interesting cast of characters looking to fill the void left by DeMar DeRozan's departure. At this point, determining who will lead the 2021-22 Spurs in scoring is anyone's guess. Forbes is a candidate, after shooting a career-best 47.3 percent from the field and a career-high 45.2 from behind the arc. And remember that Forbes saw much more floor time in 2019 through 2020 with the Spurs (26.6 minutes per game) than he experienced last season with Milwaukee (19.3 minutes per game). The problem is volume. Forbes will be competing with Derrick White, Lonnie Walker and Devin Vassell for minutes at shooting guard. And he'll be battling newly acquired Doug McDermott for catch-and-shoot three-point opportunities. Dejounte Murray and Keldon Johnson are the only Spurs guaranteed both minutes and priority in the offense. Everything else in San Antonio is a bit of a crapshoot. Forbes is on just a one-year contract with the Spurs. We expect him to perform in a reserve role on a team that will struggle to score.
Forbes carved out a nice role for himself with the Spurs over the past two seasons, averaging 11.5 points, 2.5 rebounds, 2.2 threes and 2.0 assists in 26.7 minutes. He's moving on from San Antonio, however, as the 27-year-old guard inked a two-year contract with Milwaukee. With the Bucks, Forbes should be in line for a similar role as the team looks for a consistent three-point threat outside of Khris Middleton. From a fantasy perspective, Forbes is a pure three-point contributor. He'll likely go undrafted in most formats but could make for a waiver-wire option for those desperate for threes.
Forbes put together a solid showing for the Spurs in his third NBA season, averaging 11.8 points, 2.9 rebounds and 2.1 assists. He converted 2.1 threes per game while shooting 42.6 percent from downtown and 45.6 percent from the floor. Forbes was called on to step up with Dejounte Murray out of the lineup due to an ACL tear, and he logged 28.0 minutes per game in 81 starts -- both of which were career highs. Murray will be back this season and should resume starting point guard duties, which could force Forbes into a backup role if Derrick White starts at shooting guard. In that case, it's unlikely Forbes is worth drafting in standard leagues, as failed to crack the top-120 in most fantasy formats last season. Any reduction in role essentially results in Forbes being a deep-league add only.
Forbes entered the Spurs' regular rotation for the first time in his career during the 2017-18 campaign. After averaging just 7.9 minutes as a rookie, he took the court for 19.0 minutes per game and added career highs across the board of 6.9 points, 1.4 rebounds, 1.0 assist and 1.1 three-pointers. He shot an impressive 39 percent from the three-point line as well, making him a threat from all over the floor. That solid showing earned Forbes a two-year contract extension with the Spurs this offseason, so he's set to remain with the team that gave him an opportunity as an undrafted free agent back in 2016. The Spurs picked up DeMar DeRozan after trading Kawhi Leonard to the Raptors and he's expected to see big minutes at the shooting guard position. However, Forbes has the ability to play both point guard and small forward at times as well, so he still should have the chance to increase his workload a bit in his third year, especially with Tony Parker moving on during free agency. Look for Forbes to be a scorer with the second unit, but he may need some injuries to occur higher up on the depth chart to become a legitimate Fantasy target.
