Sets program record in final game
December 30, 2022
Ibrahim notched 16 rushes for 71 yards and one touchdown during Thursday's 28-20 victory over Syracuse.
ANALYSIS
Ibrahim played nearly the entire first half before sitting out the final two quarters. Prior to his early exit, the graduate senior broke Minnesota's record for most career rushing yards (4,668) and most single-season rushing touchdowns (20) in program history. Ibrahim also finished his collegiate career as the Gophers' all-time leader in rushing touchdowns with 53, and he'll now look to take his underrated talent into the 2023 NFL Draft. Redshirt junior Trey Potts took over the team's primary rushing duties for the second half, carrying nine times for 27 yards, so it appears he'll be the front-runner for No. 1 role heading into the 2023 campaign.

2020
It's not clear where he's at in his recovery or what's a fair expectation, but Ibrahim's 2022 forecast simply depends on his health as he attempts to return from an Achilles' tendon tear that ended his 2021 season in Week 1. Ibrahim established himself as one of the nation's most productive running backs before that, running for 1,000-plus yards in two of the three prior seasons, including an especially memorable 2020 where he ran for 1,076 yards and 15 touchdowns in just seven games. Hopefully that same player steps on the field in Week 1 of 2022.
Ibrahim handled the bulk of Minnesota’s ground-heavy attack in 2020, notching more than 200 carries for the second time in three seasons despite playing just seven games. He boasts superb vision and power but doesn’t quite have the top-end speed to be a consistent home-run threat and hasn’t proven his abilities as a pass-catcher yet. Even without an elite top gear, Ibrahim averaged 5.4 yards per carry and came up big in the red zone, compiling 15 rushing scores. He should serve as the Gophers’ workhorse again in 2021, with Treyson Potts slotted in as his primary backup.
Ibrahim should be labeled as one of the prime candidates to have a breakout season in 2020. After managing 5.7 yards per carry in an offense that struggled to throw the ball back in 2018, Ibrahim backed it up with 5.3 yards per tote last year, rushing 114 times for 604 yards and seven scores. He remains unproven as a pass-catcher, reeling in a combined seven passes between the last two campaigns, but his carry count could double or more from a season ago with Rodney Smith and Shannon Brooks out of the picture. Look for Bryce Williams to work as his primary backup, but Williams managed just 4.3 yards per tote in 2018 and a measly 1.4 on 17 rushes last season, while Ibrahim ended 2019 on a high note with 20 carries for 140 yards and a touchdown in the Outback Bowl win over Auburn.
