Simmons has signed with Akron, according to the Zips' announcement Wednesday.

Simmons is hoping Akron can help him get back on track performance-wise. Before 2022, he logged 278 rushing yards and a receiving touchdown during the Michigan State Spartans' 2021 season. They began preferring other options afterward, hence his significant decline in statistical output since then. But with the Akron team expected to lose multiple running backs (redshirt seniors Lorenzo Lingard and Drake Anderson), Simmons stands a decent chance of shining brighter than he ever did with MSU.
