2023 Fantasy Outlook
As the Jaguars' second-string tight end behind Evan Engram in 2022, Arnold finished eighth on the team with just 13 targets, pulling in nine of them for 135 yards and no touchdowns. Arnold has moved on to a dynamic offense in Philadelphia but still doesn't have a path to a relevant role. Eagles tight ends not named Dallas Goedert combined for just 204 yards on 16 catches in 2022, and that was even with Goedert missing five games. In the 12 games Goedert appeared in, the Eagles' other tight ends combined for five receptions. Read Past Outlooks

The Eagles plan to release Darnold, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Arnold was competing for a depth tight end role in Philadelphia but ultimately came up short. The Eagles are doing the veteran a solid by releasing him before the final cut rush commences in order to give him a head start on seeking a new opportunity. The 28-year-old journeyman has spent time with the Saints, Cardinals, Panthers and Jaguars previously in his career.

Arnold was acquired by the Jaguars from the Panthers in late September, and he finished as Jacksonville's top receiving tight end in 2021 with 28 catches for 324 yards and zero touchdowns in eight games. Evan Engram now sits atop the depth chart after signing as a free agent, leaving Arnold to open 2022 as the Jags' No. 2 tight end. Assuming Engram remains healthy, Arnold is unlikely to have a significant role in the passing game.
Arnold was a three-sport athlete (football/basketball/track) in college at DIII UW-Platteville, where he scored 30 TDs in 30 games while primarily lining up at wide receiver. The Saints brought him on as an undrafted rookie in 2017 and later moved him to tight end, with Arnold spending two and a half years bouncing between the practice squad, active roster and IR list before he was waived by New Orleans and claimed by the Cardinals in December 2019. He finally got his big break last season, playing 41.4 percent of Arizona's offensive snaps and proving effective as a low-volume, big-play threat. With four TDs on 45 targets and an average of 14.1 yards per catch, Arnold earned a decent payday in free agency, signing a two-year, $6 million contract in Carolina. He's one of the thinnest tight ends in the league, and thus unlikely to handle a three-down role, but if nothing else, Arnold should sub in for obvious passing situations where blocking doesn't matter.
Arnold's first three pro seasons were characterized by injury and lack of opportunity in New Orleans, and ultimately he was subject to waivers last December. The Cardinals pounced on the 2017 undrafted free agent, who made an instant mark on rookie signal-caller Kyler Murray. Over the final three games of the campaign, the 6-6, 220-pound tight end notched six catches (on 10 targets) for 102 yards and two touchdowns, earning praise from Murray for his size and skills. Arnold is slated to be the No. 2 TE behind Maxx Williams in 2020, but his connection with Murray may result in the occasional flash.
Arnold was unable to crack the Saints' 53-man roster as an undrafted rookie in 2017, but he broke through after converting to tight end during the 2018 offseason. Listed at 6-foot-6 and 220 pounds, Arnold brings ideal size at the position, while his non-elite speed (4.63 40-yard-dash time) is less of a concern at tight end than it was when he played receiver. Since he was still getting his feet wet at tight end, Arnold wasn't used much in the first half of the season, but he flashed some promising upside from Weeks 10 through 13. During that four-game stretch, Arnold snagged 10 of 13 targets for 115 yards, with three of his receptions going for 20-plus yards. While the Saints' decision to replace Benjamin Watson with one of the league's more adept pass-catching tight ends in Jared Cook hinders Arnold's outlook, coach Sean Payton will find ways to get Arnold on the field more often in 2019 if the 24-year-old makes the strides the staff believes he can after a second offseason of work at the new position.
