DraftKings NHL: Sunday Breakdown

DraftKings NHL: Sunday Breakdown

This article is part of our DraftKings NHL series.

SLATE PREVIEW

Seven games are on tap Sunday, and we'll be focusing on the five-game slate starting at 6 p.m. EDT. The Bruins, Predators and Stars are all on the second half of back-to-back games, and the Ducks will be playing again tomorrow. Keep in mind that the trade deadline is Monday, so we should expect trades to be flying Sunday. It shouldn't have major effects on the lineups, so it's important to keep an eye out.

GOALIES

Philipp Grubauer, COL at ANH ($8,400): Grubauer is coming off a brutal outing against the Wild, as he allowed seven goals on just 18 shots. However, he was dynamite with 14 wins over 16 games before that dud, so his struggles shouldn't persist too long. Furthermore, the Ducks are far from the Wild in terms of offensive production, as they've scored just 11 goals over the past five games.

Juuse Saros, NSH vs. DAL ($7,500): Saros has been nothing short of dominant since returning from injury March 18, recording a .964 save percentage and an 8-2-0 record through 10 appearances. The playoffs are a possibility again, and the matchup against the Stars is appealing, as they rank 27th over the last two weeks with just 1.93 xGF/60.

VALUE PLAYS/ONE-OFFS

Jason Zucker, PIT at NJ ($3,300): Zucker has dented the twine twice and added one assist over his last six games. He's handling time with PP2 as well, and against the league's worst PK (72.5 percent), he has a high ceiling Sunday afternoon.

Valeri Nichushkin, COL at ANH ($3,200): Nichushkin has generated four goals, including a game-winner, and four assists across the last 11 games. The Ducks are held together by their goaltending, but there's a chance that they see Ryan Miller instead of John Gibson because the Ducks are playing back-to-back games. However, either goalie will have their hands full behind the Ducks' suspect blue line.

Luke Kunin, NSH vs. DAL ($3,000): Kunin has been fantastic since returning from injury, firing at least three shots on net in five of seven games and generating six points. The Stars rank 18th in the league over the last two weeks with 2.3 xGA/60, so Kunin has a good chance to stay hot tonight.

LINE STACKS

Bruins vs. Capitals

Patrice Bergeron (C - $8,000), Brad Marchand (W - $7,800), Craig Smith (W - $4,300)

The Capitals' defense has been a bit rough lately, giving up 3.27 xG/60 at even strength over the last two weeks. This line hasn't been explosive lately, but they always have that possibility, as they've registered 3.54 xGF/60 at even strength, and both Marchand and Bergeron have been oddly productive shorthanded, too.

Islanders vs. Rangers

Brock Nelson, (C - $4,700), Anthony Beauvillier (W - $4,500), Josh Bailey (W - $3,600)

With the additions of Kyle Palmieri and Travis Zajac, the Islanders boast a well-rounded top three lines. That should take some pressure off their second line, centered by Nelson, which has impressed with 2.52 xGF/60 over the last eight games. In that same stretch, the Rangers have faltered, allowing 2.38 xG/60 at even strength -- the 10th-most in the league.

DEFENSEMEN

Kris Letang, PIT at NJ ($6,100): Letang is red-hot lately, collecting a goal and 11 assists over the last nine games. His shot volume is a bit low for my liking, but quarterbacking PP1 against the league's worst PK is certainly good for his upside. It doesn't hurt that Letang has already put up multiple points in two of three games against the Devils this year, too.

Miro Heiskanen, DAL at NSH ($5,000): Heiskanen has accrued five points -- three with the man advantage -- over the last seven games. The 21-year-old is up to 21 points this season, and he's settling in on offense after an underwhelming start to the year. The matchup against Nashville is intriguing. Both teams are on the second half of back-to-back games, and the Predators' PK (73.9 percent) ranks 28th in the league.

Ryan Pulock, NYI vs. NYR ($4,700): Pulock's always a nice fantasy addition because he carries a solid floor from plenty of shots and blocked shots. The 26-year-old hit 35 points last season; he's going to fall well short of that mark this year, as he's accrued just 14 points thus far. Nevertheless, his upside should rise after the Islanders' recent additions on offense.

Steven Kampfer, BOS vs. WAS ($2,500): With all the injuries among Bruins defensemen, Kampfer led the blue line in ice time Saturday while handling power-play minutes as well. The 32-year-old doesn't have a long track record of success in the NHL, but he's been a willing shooter, making him a worthwhile flier at the price tag.
