Gusev has signed a one-year deal with KHL club SKA St. Petersburg, KHL Insider Aivis Kalnis reports.
ANALYSIS
Gusev split time with the Devils and Panthers last year and recorded four goals, six assists and 72 shots in 31 games between the two. The 29-year-old winger was with Toronto for training camp but was unable to secure a permanent deal. With his move back to the KHL, this likely will mark the end of Gusev's time in the NHL.

Panthers are favored landing spot
LWFree Agent
April 10, 2021
The Panthers are rumored to be the favorites to sign Gusev after he was released by the Devils, Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet reports.
ANALYSIS
Gusev struggled in 2020-21 with just five points and a minus-12 rating in 20 contests. That performance made him fall out of favor with the Devils, who put him on unconditional waivers Friday. He cleared waivers and is now a free agent. Gusev had 13 goals and 44 points in 66 games last season, so he could provide a bit of depth scoring for the Panthers or any other team able to ink him to a deal.

2019
After dominating the KHL for several seasons in which he averaged over a point per game, Gusev was able to bring his scoring touch with him to North America, racking up 13 goals and 31 helpers in 66 appearances for New Jersey last season. The dynamic winger recorded 15 of those 44 points with the man advantage, a role he should continue to fill going forward. It wouldn't be shocking to see Guzev challenge for 60 points during the upcoming campaign, which would make him a rock-solid pickup in the middle rounds of redraft formats.
Gusev is ready for a new challenge with the Devils having dominated the KHL competition as a four-time All-Star and two-time winner of the Gagarin Cup in his native Russia. The right-shot forward with slick hands and supreme passing ability notched 17 goals and a league-high 65 assists for SKA Saint Petersburg in 2018-19. Obviously floored by the youngster's potential, GM Ray Shero gave Vegas a pair of early-round draft picks in order to acquire Gusev and promptly put him on the books for two years and $9 million. Early signs point to him comprising the second line with No. 1 overall pick Jack Hughes and a bruising scoring winger in Wayne Simmonds.
