Headed for free agency
Girgensons is expected to test the open market this offseason, per The Fourth Period on Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
Previous reports indicated that Girgensons would be offered a new deal by the Sabres, but it seems the two sides have not been able to come to an agreement. Although the 30-year-old center has spent his entire 10-year NHL career with Buffalo, he hasn't reached the 20-point threshold since 2014-15 when he notched a career-best 15 goals and 15 helpers.

Girgensons was solid in a bottom-six role for the Sabres last season, picking up 12 goals and 19 points while averaging 13:48 of ice time in 69 appearances. However, he converted his shots at an unsustainable 14.1 percent clip, so he's due for some significant regression from a goal-scoring standpoint in 2020-21. The 26-year-old Latvian won't be a viable fantasy option this year.
