Drops decision to heavy opponent
FlyweightUFC
May 15, 2021
Schnell lost to Rogerio Bontorin via unanimous decision (27-30, 27-30, 28-29) at UFC 262 on Saturday in Houston.
ANALYSIS
Schnell agreed to this fight despite the fact Bontorin missed weight by a pound on Friday morning, and he paid for it. At least he received 20 percent of Bontorin's fight purse for his troubles. Schnell was out of sorts from the very start and was never able to get on track. He got off second in virtually all the striking exchanges between the two men -- a major issue in a fight that was spent primarily on the feet. Schnell also had all sorts of issues with the physicality of Bontorin, which isn't all that surprising considering the size at which the later entered. This is a clear step backwards for Schnell, who entered as a -165 favorite and having won five of his past six fights.
