Can't touch Katlyn Chookagian
FlyweightUFC
November 21, 2020
Calvillo lost to Katlyn Chookagian via unanimous decision (27-30, 27-30, 27-30) at UFC 255 on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
Potentially in line for a championship shot with a victory, Calvillo was routed in what was essentially a 15-minute kickboxing match. Calvillo went for a couple takedowns early before eventually abandoning that idea all together. Calvillo was content to stand and trade with Chookagian despite giving up four inches in height and three inches in reach to her opponent. It was a dreadful game plan in what appeared to be a winnable fight. Calvillo is in rough shape moving forward. She was just dominated by Chookagian, who was dominated by the two best fighters in the division in Valentina Shevchenko and Jessica Andrade. Calvillo finds herself miles from the title picture with just this one defeat.
Set to face Katlyn Chookagian
FlyweightUFC
November 2, 2020
Calvillo (illness) is expected to take Katlyn Chookagian in a flyweight matchup at UFC 255 on Nov. 21, Brett Okamoto of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
While the fight isn't quite finalized, it appears that the positive COVID-19 test that forced Calvillo to withdraw from her October fight against Lauren Murphy is no longer a factor. Calvillo will be looking to extend her unbeaten streak to four against a fighter who will be looking to avoid her third loss in her last four fights. Calvillo is giving up five inches in height and four inches in reach to, so getting this fight to the mat should be key to her game plan. The two sport similar offensive striking numbers, but Chookagian has just a 48 percent takedown defense, which is typically a weakness that's been exploited in here losses. Calvillo has seen success in the grappling department, as she averages 1.97 takedowns per 15 minutes of fight time and has racked up up seven combined takedowns in her last two bouts.

The UFC added newcomer Liliya Shakirova as a short-notice replacement for Calvillo for the Oct. 24 event at Yas Island in Abu Dhabi.
