Struggles continue in Vegas

Colares lost to Chase Hooper via TKO (punches) at 3:00 of Round 3 at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
It was a back-and-forth affair in which both men had their moments, but Colares certainly struggled for a good portion of the bout. It didn't start well for Felipe. Both men landed a pair of takedowns in Round 2, but the striking volume was significantly lopsided (54-23) in Hooper's favor. Colares did a very nice job of settling things down in the middle frame and may have even deserved to win the round, but the Brazilian's pace and cardio noticeably dipped in Round 3, and that allowed Hooper to unload everything but the kitchen sink and eventually earn the stoppage. It's been a struggle for Colares since joining the UFC in February 2019. He now has just a 2-4 record in his first six bouts with the company and will find himself firmly in must-win territory his next time out.

Colares will fight Chase Hooper in a featherweight matchup at the UFC event scheduled for May 21, Combate reports.
ANALYSIS
Colares suffered a left elbow injury in his split-decision loss to Chris Gutierrez last October, but he'll be cleared from his six-month medical suspension for this matchup in May. The Brazilian will move up to featherweight to take on Hooper, a young mat specialist. That could spell trouble for Colares, who defends takedowns at just a 43 percent clip.

Colares lost to Chris Gutierrez via split decision (27-30, 29-28, 27-30) at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
The "split decision" term implies Colares performed better than he looked inside the Octagon. He was competitive, but this was a clear cut decision for Gutierrez. Colares' best round was the first. He out landed Gutierrez in the opening frame 21-19, before finding himself in a 96-49 hole the rest of the way. Colares did land a takedown for 2:16 worth of control time in Round 3, but that still wasn't enough to earn him the decision. The 27-year-old Brazilian has now alternated losses and wins in his first five bouts with the company since arriving on the scene in February 2019.

Colares won his previous fight over Luke Sanders by unanimous decision in May, but it wasn't a convincing victory. The Brazilian is 2-2 through his first four UFC fights.
Rebound following slow start

Colares defeated Luke Sanders via unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-29) at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
Colares' victory was more the result of Sanders collapsing as opposed to anything the Brazilian did correctly, but Colares will take it. He had a difficult time in the early going when both men were fresh. Thankfully for Colares, Sanders completely gassed out after about four minutes and he took full advantage. Colares is a solid mat specialist who offers very little power. His conditioning is also mediocre. He has looked like little more than roster depth through his first four UFC bouts, posting a 2-2 mark. Expect the 27-year-old to hover right around the .500 mark moving forward.
