Garcia lost to Rinya Nakamura via unanimous decision (26-30, 27-30, 27-30) at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Singapore.
ANALYSIS
This was a clear no-win situation for Garcia from the very start. The 31-year-old Texan had to fly halfway around the world to find himself as a +650 underdog against a top prospect. Predictably, Garcia was dominated from bell-to-bell, giving up at least one takedown and at least 2:30 worth of control time in all three frames. Fernie earned his UFC opportunity with a first-round knockout win on Dana White's Contender Series in October 2021, but it's been all downhill since, with Garcia losing each of his first three official fights with the company, all via unanimous decision. It's highly unlikely he is granted a fourth chance.

Garcia may have had the advantage if he could have stayed at range, but couldn't resist trying to scramble with his opponent on the ground, which ultimately led to positional control from the superior wrestler in Hiestand. Garcia is a talented boxer with power in his hands but has been handled on the ground in each of his last two fights, which has neutralized his greatest strengths. He falls to 10-3-0 in professional MMA as a result of the loss.
