Digs deep for UFC 297 win
Curtis defeated Marc-Andre Barriault via split decision (30-27, 28-29, 30-27) at UFC 297 on Saturday in Toronto.
ANALYSIS
Facing a tough opponent in a hostile environment, Curtis did enough to win, but it wasn't particularly entertaining until the final three or four minutes. Chris managed a few of his trademark punches here and there, but neither man managed much separation for the duration of the bout. To Curtis' credit, he defended very well, making sure Barriault -- a known power puncher -- was never able to string together damaging blows. Chris will be 37 years of age this coming July. His 2-2 (1NC) record in his past five fights is underwhelming, but Curtis' ability to fight often and in multiple weight classes is an asset for a company that holds an event almost every week.

Scheduled against Barriault
Curtis (undisclosed) will compete against Marc-Andre Barriault in a middleweight fight at UFC 297 in Toronto on Jan. 20, according to Marcel Dorff of Eurosport.nl.
ANALYSIS
After withdrawing from a Sept. 16 fight against Anthony Hernandez in August, Curtis has recovered relatively quickly and will look to begin his 2024 campaign immediately. 2023 was a rough year for the Action Man, who lost to Kelvin Gastelum and fought Nassourdine Imavov to a no-contest.

Will not fight Hernandez
Curtis will not fight Anthony Hernandez on Sept. 16, according to Mike Heck of MMAFighting.com.
ANALYSIS
Instead of fighting Curtis, Hernandez will compete against Kopylov. The new bout likely indicates Curtis withdrew, and the reasoning for his withdrawal has yet to be publicized.

Next fight booked
Curtis will face off against Anthony Hernandez at a UFC event on Sept. 16, Mike Heck of MMAFighting.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Curtis, who was unable to continue following an accidental headbutt against Nassourdine Imavov in June, has drawn Anthony Hernandez in his next bout. The 35-year-old fighter, who currently boasts a UFC record of 4-2, will look to continue building his resume in September.

Can't continue following headbutt
Curtis and Nassourdine Imavov fought to a no contest (accidental headbutt) at 3:04 of Round 2 at UFC 289 on Saturday in Vancouver.
ANALYSIS
You have to feel for Curtis. "The Action Man" was in the process of being hammered by Imavov and well on his way to defeat, at which point an accidental clash of heads left Curtis hobbled and badly cut. He desperately wanted to continue and kept asking referee Jason Herzog for more time, but you don't get a full five minutes in an instance like this like you would with a foul, and Herzog eventually had to pull the plug. Many fighters would have taken the easy way out here in a fight they were clearly losing, but not Curtis. Maybe the UFC will run these two back at some point, at which point Chris is going to find himself as a larger underdog than the +140 he was at the start of this one.
