Crushed by Gregory Rodrigues
MiddleweightUFC
February 10, 2024
Tavares lost to Gregory Rodrigues via TKO (punches) at 0:55 of Round 3 at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
Those expecting a back-and-forth slugfest here were largely rewarded. Tavares hung in for the better part of two rounds, but he simply has no stopping power in his hands at this stage of his career, and if one man was going to eventually crumble in this fight, it was clearly going to be Brad. He appeared to tire in an instant, and Rodrigues floored the gas pedal, piling up countless unanswered shots before referee Jason Herzog stepped in with a smart stoppage. Now 36 years old, Tavares is 3-5 in his past eight bouts. Three of the losses have come via knockout, while all three of the wins have come via decision. There's not much left here.

Tavares will compete against Gregory Rodrigues in a middleweight fight at the UFC's Feb. 10 event, Marcel Dorff of Eurosport.nl reports.
ANALYSIS
Back in September 2022, Tavares and Rodrigues were scheduled to fight at the UFC's first pay-per-view of 2023, UFC 283. However, Tavares withdrew, and Rodrigues instead fought Brunno Ferreira and lost. Since then, Rodrigues has finished Denis Tiuliulin in one round, while Tavares redeemed himself from a Bruno Silva defeat by defeating former UFC Middleweight Champion Chris Weidman.
Spoils Chris Weidman's return
MiddleweightUFC
August 20, 2023
Tavares defeated Chris Weidman via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27) at UFC 292 on Saturday in Boston.
ANALYSIS
Tavares is known for having solid takedown defense, but he truly put it on display here by stuffing all eight of Weidman's takedown attempts. With Tavares able to keep things standing, he went on to win the significant striking battle 70-to-37, doing much of his damage via leg kicks. While it was well known Weidman was returning from a broken right leg, Tavares punished his lead left leg to the point where it was compromised for nearly the entirety of the fight. He landed 41 leg kicks over the course of the bout, 19 of which came in Round 3. The end result was Tavares' first victory since 2021, though beating the former champion in Weidman doesn't mean nearly as much in the year 2023.

Tavares is set to take on Chris Weidman in a middleweight matchup at UFC 292 on Aug. 19, Mark La Monica of Newsday reports.
ANALYSIS
Tavares, who was most recently defeated by Bruno Silva in April, will look to bounce back against Chris Weidman. The 35-year-old fighter, who is currently 14-8 in the UFC, will look to deny Weidman a victory in his return to the UFC.
Quickly stopped by Bruno Silva
MiddleweightUFC
April 23, 2023
Tavares lost to Bruno Silva via TKO (strikes) at 3:35 of Round 1 at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
It's a disastrous performance from Tavares as a -160 favorite. Fresh off a unanimous decision loss to Dricus Du Plessis last July, Tavares got blitzed with a knee, followed by a right hand from the powerful Silva. Referee Mark Smith was a bit quick on the stoppage, and Tavares wasn't happy about it, but he was most definitely in trouble. The 35-year-old Hawaiian has really struggled over the course of the past five years, managing just two wins in six fights. It's worth noting that all four of the Silva defeats during that stretch have been against quality competition (Silva, Du Plessis, Edmen Shahbazyan, UFC Middleweight Champion Israel Adesanya), but you are what your record says you are in this sport, and the aging Tavares is running out of time.

Tavares is set to face off with Bruno Silva in a middleweight matchup, at a UFC event on Apr. 22, Marcel Dorff of Eurosport.nl reports.
ANALYSIS
Tavares most recently withdrew from his matchup with Gregory Rodrigues at UFC 283 with an undisclosed injury, but he will get back to work against Silva in April. The 35-year-old American fighter currently boasts a record of 14-7 in the UFC, which he will look to improve upon against Silva.
