Late surge salvages draw
WelterweightUFC
November 4, 2023
Zaleski dos Santos and Rinat Fakhretdinov fought to a majority draw (28-29, 28-28, 28-28) at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
ANALYSIS
Zaleski dos Santos was nearly knocked out just seconds into this fight. When you take that into consideration, anything other than a loss seems like a victory for ZDS. That said, he had Fakhretdinov in so much trouble late following a beautiful liver shot that it's extremely disappointing the Brazilian wasn't able to earn the late stoppage. First it appeared as if he would be able to knock Rinat out with unanswered blows to the side of the head, at which point Zaleski dos Santos transitioned to a potential submission. Neither were successful. Elizeu is less than two weeks shy of his 37th birthday, so time is running out, but this late surge shows there's some gas left in the tank.
Scheduled against Fakhretdinov
WelterweightUFC
August 21, 2023
Zaleski dos Santos will compete against Rinat Fakhretdinov in a welterweight fight at UFC Sao Paulo on Nov. 4, according to Marcel Dorff of Eurosport.nl.
ANALYSIS
Having defeated Benoit Saint-Denis and Abubakar Nurmagomedov, Zaleski dos Santos has an opportunity to prolong his winning streak to three in his home country. However, he faces a difficult challenge in Fakhretdinov, undefeated across his last 20 fights.
Wins in return from long layoff
WelterweightUFC
June 3, 2023
Zaleski dos Santos defeated Abubakar Nurmagomedov via split decision (29-28, 28-29, 29-28) at UFC on ESPN 46 on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
Set to turn 37 years of age this coming November, Zaleski dos Santos deserves a ton of credit for overcoming a slow start and finding a way to win this fight. He seemed a step slow for the entirety of Round 1 before simply out-working Nurmagomedov over the course of the final ten minutes. He refused to accept disadvantageous positions and was able to do just enough to get past his clearly tiring opponent. The biggest issue for ZDS at this point has been inactivity. This was his first fight since October 2021 and just his fourth since March 2020. He is 3-1 during that span.
Returning from suspension
WelterweightUFC
April 25, 2023
Zaleski (suspenssion) is set to square off against Abubakar Nurmagomedov at UFC Vegas 74 on June 3, Guilherme Cruz of MMAFighting.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Zaleski was handed a one-year suspension by the USADA after failing an out-of-competition drug test for ostarine in September of 2022. However, the Nevada Athletic Commssion only gave him a nine-month ban, which may explain why he is allowed to return to the octagon sooner than expected. The veteran has won nine of his previous 11 fights. His opponent, Nurmagomedov, is 2-1 since joining the company.
Hit with one-year suspension

September 21, 2022
Zaleski has been handed a one-year suspension by the USADA after failing an out-of-competition drug test for ostarine, Guilherme Cruz of MMAFighting.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Zaleski denies using the banned substance, but the positive result forced him to withdraw from a planned bout with Mounir Lazzez that was supposed to be on April 16 in Las Vegas. Zaleski is looking at not being able to compete in the Octagon until April of 2023.
